My title for this topic is not correct……it is not the box stitch but a filler stitch that I need help with.

I am stitching the Love Bellpull from the "A Tribute to Hardanger Embroidery" book by Maurine Jenkins. It has a fill in for squares of satin stitch going down the sides of the bell pull .  I cannot seem to find any reference on how to make this stitch. Using any other stitch will not be as pretty.  Can anyone help me?  Nadine

Does the stitch have a name?  I don't have that book, but I do have some stitch books that it may be in if I knew the name.  Or can you scan the picture in the book to make it big so we can see.

Problem areaI got the scan thing figured out…..here is the area of the pattern for the filling for the satin stitched squares.  There are 6 of them on each side of the bell pull.  The pattern just calls it "looped corners".  I think I need to leave 2 threads in the middle both vertical and horizontal but can't figure out how the threads are sewn in.  I maybe need to do a sample and try it more.  Thanks for any help anyone may be able to give me.

Hi Nadine!

Roz sent me a reply for you:

"Those little looped corners are formed by cutting and removing four threads out from each corner, leaving the 4 center fabric threads going each way.  With your threaded needle, come to the top of the piece in one of the corners of the motif.  Go to the center square and insert your needle at the first junction where a thread from each direction meets, pulling it towards the corner where your needle came from.  Pull it until it forms a straight diagonal line and then twist your thread around the extended thread as you go back to the same corner hole.  Move to the other corners and repeat the process.

I hope this makes sense to you.

Roz"

 Roz,

Thank you so very much for your help.  It did make sense to me.  I went and did one box and it worked perfectly. It is so wonderful to have a source like this to receive personal help. Now I can complete the bell pull in time for my daughter's birthday.
